Being market savvy with a digital mindset

The malleability of a skill

When Canada-based Marketing Engagement Manager Shannen Wilson first stepped into Caldic in 2021, she was laser-focused on one goal: improving customer satisfaction through hands-on work with product samples. But it didn’t take long before her talents were recognized beyond the scope of her original role. With a keen eye for process improvement and a natural flair for collaboration, Shannen soon found herself drawn into the digital side of the business.

“My background is in marketing,” she says, “but as I became more involved in cross-functional projects, I started leaning into IT-adjacent responsibilities. It was new territory for me, but also incredibly exciting.”

Today, Shannen serves as one of the digital ambassadors for Caldic’s global digitization project, a transformative initiative that harnesses data and AI to create seamless digital experiences for customers and business partners alike. It’s a far cry from her initial role, but for Shannen, the journey has been both challenging and rewarding. “Working in an IT-adjacent role with a marketing background has pushed me outside my comfort zone in the best possible way,” she explains. “I’ve had the chance to work closely with our global tech teams and really understand the impact digital solutions have on the customer experience.”

The reciprocity of a skill

Shannen’s unique dual expertise has made her a critical bridge between technical innovation and business applications. Representing North America in the global digitalization effort, she ensures that regional market needs are not just heard but fully integrated into digital strategy. Her background in marketing and events means she brings a customer-focused lens to the table, one that adds commercial value to tech development.

And for those who assume tech roles are off-limits without a formal IT education, Shannen offers a refreshing counterpoint: “I didn’t have a traditional path into IT, but these kinds of roles offer a brilliant opportunity to build on what you already know. If you understand the business, you bring an essential perspective to any tech project.”

The learning curve, she admits, was steep. “At first, it was overwhelming. No crash course could have prepared me for everything, but that’s inherent to the nature of the field. It is dynamic and will continue to evolve. I’ve learned by doing, and that’s been incredibly powerful.”

As Caldic’s Digital Ambassador for North America, Shannen continues to shape digital tools that align with real-world business needs. It’s a role that places her at the intersection of global innovation and local insight. A role she embraces wholeheartedly.

I’m thrilled to be working with such a diverse and talented global team, it’s incredibly inspiring. We’re not just digitalizing processes; we’re transforming how Caldic adds value across every region and business partner we serve.
