At Caldic, sustainability is firmly embedded in our day-to-day operations. From targeted actions to reduce our carbon emissions to using environmentally-friendly transport vehicles and giving back to society through community engagement initiatives, we strive to impart our promise of care in everything we do.
Since 2023, we have been a signatory of the UN Global Compact, committing to support its ten principles covering Human Rights, Labor, Environment, and Anti-Corruption, as well as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The UN SDGs are a call to action. It lists 17 targets for communities and organizations for an inclusive and sustainable future. Caldic has pledged to five goals and continues to carry out consistent measures that contribute to these targets.
#3 Good Health and Well-being
We prioritize the health and well-being of our employees. Three focus areas fall within the scope of this goal: occupational safety, employee well-being, and working with our supply partners and customers to create products with a lower carbon footprint or better-for-you profile, such as bespoke proprietary nutritional blends for clean-label plant-based food and beverage formulations.
#8 Decent Work and Economic Growth
We believe in providing an inclusive workplace and equitable career growth for all and ensuring a strong foundation is in place to enhance valuable employee experiences. Our global people and performance management platform and comprehensive e-learning environment help guide professional and personal development, equipping our employees worldwide with the competencies and skills they need to advance their careers.
#11 Sustainable Cities and Communities
As a corporate citizen, we recognize the importance of doing our part in making the planet a habitable space for future generations. The community engagement drives across locations are a testament to this commitment. From beach clean-ups to tree plantation drives, to volunteering in food banks, and sporting events to raise money for charity, our employees organize and participate in an array of projects. And in facility management, sustainability is a determining factor: our Rotterdam HQ is housed in a BREEAM-certified building and our soon-to-open facilities in Malmö, Sweden, were designed for low environmental impact.
#12 Responsible Consumption and Production
Acknowledging our impact on the environment also means following it up with responsible production practices. In our distribution centers, for (re)packaging purposes, we use, among others, FSC-certified, renewable paperboard and reusable IBCs, HDPE drums and cans while prioritizing best waste management practices.
#13 Climate Action
An urgent and collective call to action on climate change is the foundation of all SDGs. Over the years, Caldic sites have taken accountability for responsible energy use – increasingly shifting away from fossil fuels - and improving waste management practices. Most of our sites source electricity from renewable sources such as solar and hydro energy, leading to a year-on-year reduction in scope 1 and 2 emissions (-11.6% in 2024 versus the prior year).
