Rotterdam, October 28th, 2025 - Caldic B.V. today announced the official opening of its new Food Innovation Center in Malmö, Sweden. Conveniently located less than a half-hour’s drive from Copenhagen Airport, the cutting-edge facility serves principals and customers with dedicated application laboratories, alongside custom production for a broad range of food, nutrition, and beverage ingredients.
Co-creation of enhanced food solutions
“This inauguration marks a major milestone in the consolidation of our Nordics organization and lays a strong foundation for future growth in Europe,” said Steven Terwindt, Group CEO. “By bringing our Nordics teams together under one roof in a center of excellence built to the highest sustainability standards, we are fostering collaboration in a modern environment where our people, suppliers, and principals can co-create solutions and shape the future of food innovation - sparking what’s next in healthier and more sustainable living.”
“With these state-of-the-art facilities, in combination with our technical food expertise and comprehensive ingredients portfolio, we are ideally positioned to co-develop enhanced product formulations and solutions that accelerate our customers’ speed to market, added Torsten Walz, CEO Europe. “The new application centers further strengthen our New Product Development (NPD) and formulation expertise in Europe, bringing the total to 22 centers of excellence in the region. In addition, our advanced production capabilities enable us to deliver custom liquid and powder blends and packed products that reduce complexity and make high-quality products production-ready.”
The new Malmö site spans 10,000 m2, with one half dedicated to production and warehousing, accommodating up to 3,000 pallet spaces. The facility also comprises 350 m2 of laboratories for new product development, sample production, and application work across key expert areas, including bakery, dairy, ice cream, savory, nutrition, beverage, and confectionery. Spacious and light-filled open workspaces further enhance collaboration and innovation across teams, supported by high indoor environmental quality.
Gold sustainability rating
The new facilities have been awarded the "Miljöbyggnad Guld" certification – the highest preliminary sustainability accreditation granted by the Sweden Green Building Council. The site’s design and operations reflect Caldic’s strong commitment to environmental responsibility. Bio-gas boilers provide water heating, and renewable solar energy contributes to the facility’s power supply. A 50% reduction in total energy consumption has been accomplished compared to the cumulative energy usage of Caldic’s previous sites in the Nordics.
Furthermore, the site has successfully completed the ISO 22000 audit for distribution, FSSC 22000 audit for powder production, and obtained an Organic certification. Company bikes are available for employees to use for their commute, complemented by charging stations for electric vehicles. These initiatives encourage physical activity and contribute to reducing the transportation-related environmental footprint.
