Caldic and INEOS Styrolution enter partnership

New Partnership

Rotterdam, the Netherlands, September 27, 2022 – Caldic is pleased to announce the agreement of a strategic partnership with INEOS. The new collaboration opens up promising opportunities for our customers to source INEOS Styrolution polymer modifiers in Europe. In this polymeric age, modification of polymer properties is key to improve processing or enhance end products while aiming to lower the environmental impact of plastic solutions production.

Optimization of polymer performance

Thermoplastic polymers touch nearly all aspects of modern life: from pipes and tanks in the construction industry to electronic goods in the consumer market. Thus, it is crucial to seek solutions that allow the production of more planet-friendly end products by optimizing the polymer performance.

Whether it is reducing material usage, lengthening the lifespan of products or parts, or increasing the reuse and recycling of plastic materials, polymer modifiers can help achieve these objectives.

“For many applications I expect our new modifiers to be a game changer."

Enhancing product properties

Caldic Europe, together with INEOS Styrolution, offers a range of solutions developed to improve key attributes of different types of polymers. The polymer modifiers address the needs of compounders and converters to enhance product properties. Due to their lightweight nature thermoplastics require less energy, and for example when applied in automobiles can help improve fuel efficiency. The low density of styrenic polymers gives an opportunity to reduce weight in automotive applications, hence reducing rolling resistance and vehicle emissions.

Dr. Eike Jahnke, INEOS Styrolution, Vice President Specialties EMEA, describes the polymer modifier range as follows: “For many applications I expect our new modifiers to be a game changer. For example, one benefit of styrenics is its low density. Additional investment is compensated not only by the lower density of the modifiers in compounds or blends, but more importantly by the performance improvement.”

Tim Mills, Business Development Manager Plastics and Rubber Caldic Europe, comments, “Caldic has worked with INEOS in the last 12 months to produce and put in place a central hub that stocks all new grades of polymer modifiers, ensuring the materials are available for sampling, trials and commercial sales”. He sums up, “Together with INEOS Styrolution, Caldic offers a range of powder grades for polymer modification that support our customers in improving their targeted product properties to optimize both existing and future application designs.”
