A customer in Belgium presented us with a daunting challenge: the firm needed to find a safe and environmentally responsible way to discharge ground water. But the water was contaminated with heavy metals and mineral oils, so first the contaminants had to be removed.
We began the project of purifying the water by conducting tests to determine the nature of the contamination and the treatment options. Based on the results of our tests, we chose a multi-stage treatment strategy. We first introduced a coagulant, and were then able to remove the coagulated materials with dual media filters. We then used a specific form of activated carbon to remove the mineral oils, and then, at the end of this purification process, we introduced an additional filter with ion exchange resins to remove the heavy metals. The result: using a combination of our products and a specially designed purification process, our client now has a safe and sustainable system for decontaminating and discharging the water.
