Lecithin is added to pet food as an emulsifier, allowing oils and water to mix and to keep fats from separating. Lecithin also acts as a preservative and can offer some nutritional benefits. It is a source of choline, which is essential to every living cell in the body and is one of the main components of cell membranes. Without choline, the cell membranes would harden, prohibiting important nutrients from entering and leaving the cell. Lecithin is also to provide additional benefits in improving brain function, depression, and treating liver and gall bladder disease as well as some skin disorders such as eczema.
Lecitin is available in soy, sunflower and canola varieties and may be organic, non-GMO and have reduced viscosity for ease of use.
